Church Leadership

All power in heaven and earth is given to Jesus Christ by Almighty God, who raised Christ from the dead and set Him above all rule and authority, all power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. God has put all things under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ head of the Church, which is His body.

Presbyterian Book of Order

The form of government of the Presbyterian Church is set out in the Book of Order, available from the Presbyterian Church of the USA. Government in the Presbyterian Church is shared by Elders and Ministers of the Word and Sacrament, the Presbyters, in Session. Deacons are an important part of our congregational care program. Both women and men serve as Elders and Deacons. Specific information about these offices, and a form to suggest a member for consideration, is available on their pages.
To those called to exercise special functions in the church — deacons, elders, and ministers of the Word and Sacrament — God gives suitable gifts for their various duties. In addition to possessing the necessary gifts and abilities, natural and acquired, those who undertake particular ministries should be persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship, and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel in the church and in the world. They must have the approval of God’s people and the concurring judgment of a governing body of the church.

The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office.
