Community Life
The Community Life Department provides support to people during the many stages of life, and offers members opportunities to serve and care for each other. We hope to share the love of Christ in the FPCB community and beyond through ministries of presence, prayer, and sincere devotion to others. Our goal is to be present in many different ways: through pastoral visits, deacon ministries, retreats, workshops, support groups, and prayer.
Ministries of Care
The Deacon Ministry brings the love of God to church members through phone calls, notes, home visits, prayer, and the quarterly Zip Code Coffees. The Homebound Support Ministry cares for members unable to attend church for an extended period of time through regular visitation, quarterly communion, and weekly mailings of sermon tapes. Blood pressure checks are provided on a regular basis before the Senior Adult Fellowship meetings, and notebooks listing local resources for seniors are available in the Library and Church Office.
Ministries of Support & Support Groups
The six-week Pre-Marriage and Newly-Married Class offered in the fall and spring prepares couples for the challenges and joys of marriage. The Divorce Recovery Workshop, offered twice yearly, nurtures those who are going through divorce or separation, enabling them to move beyond the present hurt into a life of hope, healing, and growth.
Community Life support groups provide practical help, encouragement, and spiritual and emotional support to the FPCB community. The Prostate Cancer Support and Breast Cancer groups serve men and women who are struggling with cancer. The Grief Recovery Support Group walks with adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one, and the Coping with Depression group supports individuals with mental illness. Congregational Care also offers a Families Dealing with Homosexuality group and a Families with Special-Needs Children group. They also facilitate consultation on topics such as loss of children, job loss, and infertility. New this year is a support group for women who have lost their husbands. This group for widows offers support to women in the church and community.
Ministries of Prayer
Women’s Prayer Fellowship meets weekly to pray for the concerns submitted on Sunday and prayer requests received during the week. The Prayer Chain responds immediately to urgent prayer concerns. During each Sunday worship service, members of the congregation meet for Together in Prayer, a time of prayer that lifts up the ministries of the church. The Healing Prayer Ministry Team is available oncall and meets twice monthly to pray with individuals for healing. Anointing and prayer are offered during the modern worship service at 6:00 p.m.
Memorial Garden
The Memorial Courtyard and Garden, where the ashes of faithful members can be interred, allows care to extend into eternity.
Ministries of Hospitality
The Information Desk is a place where members and visitors find answers to questions, get directions, and order nametags or copies of sermon tapes.
The Pastor and Staff Support Team (PSST!) encourage and support our hard-working pastors and staff through projects, activities, and delicious treats.
Community Life also hosts receptions following Memorial Services that take place at FPCB.
